ARLINGTON, Va., July 8, 2004 -- For the second year in a row, the Annual

in order by Medical Imaging Analysis, IEEE Transactions on Medical
Imaging, Biomaterials, Journal of Biomedical Material Research, Physics
in Medicine and Biology, Journal of Biomechanics, Clinical Oral Implants
Research, Journal Biomedical Engineering - Transactions of the ASME,
and Annals of Biomedical Engineering.
ISI calculates an "impact factor" as a ratio of citations
to recently published articles. The Annual Review of Biomedical
Engineering received an impact factor of 7.875, up from its first-place
rating of 3.537 in 2002. This year, second-place Medical Imaging
Analysis scored 4.442.
Annual Review of Biomedical Engineering began in 1999 with
support from a Whitaker Foundation grant to help with the journal's
start-up costs, advertising and promotion. ISI is an information resource
service for researchers, information specialists and administrators.
Its impact factors are published in its subscription-only Journal Citation
